Estes Park Staycation | YMCA of the Rockies

For all travel lovers, 2020 has thrown a wrench in our big plans of exploring the world the way we’d like to, and staycations have become our best friend! I’m beyond grateful to live in a state where there is so much to explore and so many wonderful options for a safe and fun staycation with the family.
Right before Christmas we had the opportunity to stay in a cabin at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. We stayed in a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom cabin that overlooked the gorgeous rocky mountains. We took the three days to unwind, unplug and spend quality time as a family. We also got to cross off some fun things on our winter bucket list. Have you ever ice skated on a pond?! Not us, until now! It was such a blast experiencing lots of “firsts” with Giulian. It was his first time staying in a cabin, first time ice skating and first time sledding. I think is favorite was sledding down the big hills with Dad. He let out a scream that would take us all back to our childhood!
The YMCA of the Rockies is extremely family friendly, they’ve got a ton of activities to choose from and is great for kids of all ages. This time of year they offer archery (which would be so fun when my boys are older), gingerbread house and sugar cookie decorating, sledding, ice skating, and so much more. My mom, sister, and her three kiddos came up for one of the days and it was such a blast to enjoy all of the amenities that the YMCA of the Rockies offers with our entire family. Giulian is 3 years old and my oldest nephew is almost 17, they both had an absolute blast which just shows that this place is great for kids of all ages and a perfect place to bring the whole family together.

The YMCA of the Rockies offers cabins of all sizes, I even saw on their property that they have a family reunion cabin, which basically is a super large house. It’s nestled in the mountains just a few miles outside of downtown Estes Park. There’s so much to do and see in Estes. We love wandering the town, shopping in the local shops and eating at the mom and pop type restaurants, exploring the grounds of the famous Stanley Hotel (you might know from the Jack Nicholson movie The Shining), and of course looking for Elk (they’re typically wandering the town in herds).

Visiting the YMCA of the Rockies will probably be a yearly thing for our family. I would love one day to go and fill up that family reunion cabin with all of my loved ones, that’d be a trip to remember! Maybe next year we’ll plan a visit over Christmas, they offer a Santa delivery on Christmas Eve! Can you imagine how magical that would be for the kids, to spend Christmas tucked away in a cabin in the beautiful Rocky Mountains and to have Santa deliver the gifts there. I am genuinely loving all of these staycations and getting to know and love Colorado more. Comment below and share your most recent staycation adventure with me! As always, thanks for reading!
