5 Reasons I Love A Staycation
As you can tell from my content, I love a good staycation!! Well, truly I love any form of travel but local adventures seem a lot more convenient these days with a new baby and oh you know, the pandemic… Our most recent staycation to the Gaylord Rockies was such a treat. The hotel has so much to offer just on their own property. From the massive indoor and outdoor (for warmer months) swimming pools, year round activities and events and amazing dining experiences, the Gaylord Rockies has enough to experience to make you forget you never left your city! If you’re in the Denver area I’d absolutely recommend booking a getaway here. I would also recommend eating at Old Hickory during your stay, it was some of the best food we have ever had. That says a lot since we have spent about two months of our life in Italy. It was a very impressive dining experience!! It is pricey but worth every penny.
So why do I love staycations so much? Here are my top five reasons.
1. Short And Sweet.
One night away makes sense when it’s a staycation. If you’re taking the time to fly somewhere, staying only one night really doesn’t make much sense. By the time you account for travel and airport time on both days, staying somewhere only one night is sorta pointless. If you’re going to fly somewhere I feel like two nights at least is a must.
2. Simple Getaway From Kids.
A staycation is a great way to get a break from the kiddos without being too far just in case you’re needed. For example, our recent overnight stay at Gaylord Rockies was our first time away from the kids since having Luke. Since he’s only 3 months old and we weren’t sure how he’d do overnight without mommy, it was a good test run being away but just a short car ride away just in case.
3. Explore Your Home Town.
We all think of a vacation as getting on an airplane and seeing somewhere new. I’m ALL for that, trust me I love to travel. But there’s also new adventures in your backyard! So often we take our everyday surroundings for granted. Not exploring our own city is a huge mistake in my option. Nick and I have had such a blast through the years exploring new places local to us.
4. Support Local Businesses.
I absolutely love the entrepreneurial spirit here in Denver. There are so many local restaurants, boutique hotels, local shops, etc that need love and support especially during this pandemic. Whether it’s a big business or a small business, I love supporting the businesses here in Denver. A staycation is the perfect way to do that.
5. Affordability.
When you eliminate the cost of flights, that really does save a huge chunk of a vacations cost. Flights can often be the more expensive part of a trip. When you’re saving on the cost of flights, maybe that opens up room in your vacation budget for more experience based activities like shows, events or even expensive dining experiences. Or maybe you could extend the trip with that savings! No matter what you decide, the fact is staycations are usually more cost effective.
Whether you’re here in Denver or in a different city, I would absolutely suggest booking a staycation for you and your family. Get out and explore your local destination spots and see what your town has to offer. Start to discover your home state in a whole new way.
